Two Theatre Bay Area Awards! (and I'm playing the Devil)

It's been a while since my last update and my so called acting life has been quite busy! I spent the summer with the never-silent San Francisco Mime Troupe where I assistant directed, choreographed, performed in, and drove the truck for our touring production of WALLS, a new musical about immigration. I also took Type/Casteto the National Black Theatre Festival in North Carolina where it received the kind of fiery reception (standing ovations AND walkouts by scandalized audience members) that lets you know your show must be doing something right. As we head into the fall, I've got some exciting news to share!

You really, really like me!

At this year's Theatre Bay Area Awards I was named Outstanding Featured Actor for my work in Bootycandy and Type/Caste was awarded Outstanding Solo Production. It feels wonderful to be recognized by my peers and I am so grateful to all my collaborators and to my beloved partner-in-crime, Edris Cooper-Anifowoshe, who directed me in both plays.

I'm playing "the devil" in a Tom Waits musical!

From Nov 9 to Jan 21 I'll be playing the role of Peg Leg, a mysterious stranger who makes a young lover an offer he can't refuse, in: Black Rider - a deliciously dark folk opera with a script by William S. Burroughs, original direction by Robert Wilson, and music by the incomparable Tom Waits.

We run at Shotgun Players in Berkeley and I'm so excited to share this extraordinary play with you. Performances are already selling out so don't wait; get your tickets at the link below! *Artists can get discounted $20 tickets. Click here for info.
